Content Analytics

Content analytics show how customers use your content, and how much storage and bandwidth it takes.

What you can see

  • Downloads over time, in total, and split into file downloads (files you uploaded) and link downloads (links to files hosted elsewhere).
  • Downloads by content. Your most downloaded content, ranked. The top 25 are shown.
  • Storage. The total size of the files you've uploaded. The current figure is always live, and earlier days show a snapshot taken once that day, to show the trend.
  • Bandwidth. How much data was delivered when files were downloaded, day by day, with the total and daily average for your date range.
note

Content you've deleted is still counted, as Deleted content, so past totals stay accurate.

Storage and bandwidth

Only files you upload use storage and bandwidth. Links to files hosted elsewhere do not.

  • Deleting content frees its storage. See Disabling and Deleting Content.
  • Your content library shows an estimate. Its bandwidth figure is based on each file's size and how many times it was downloaded. Analytics use your actual daily usage.

Why downloads and bandwidth don't always match

  • Your own downloads. Downloads by you and your staff, including through temporary links, use bandwidth, but aren't counted as customer downloads.
  • Cancelled downloads. A customer can cancel a download as soon as it starts. It's counted as a download, but uses little or no bandwidth.
  • Repeat downloads. The file link a customer gets when they download can be reused for 30 minutes, so one download can occasionally deliver the file more than once.

Using it

  • Spot unused content. Content that's rarely downloaded may be hard to find, or no longer needed.
  • Watch your bandwidth. Your most downloaded files, and your largest files, use the most.
