Configuring a Product

Configuring a product tells the app what to deliver. You do it once per product, or once per variant for products with variants. Start with Configure New Product, and pick the product from your Shopify catalog.

1. Choose Product Type

Product typeChoose it when
Download OnlyCustomers get files or links, but no license key.
Download & LicenseCustomers get files or links and a license key for each unit they buy.

If the product has variants, each variant is configured separately, with its own type, content, keys and settings.

Link the files and links customers should recieve on purchase. You can add new content, or link content that's already in your library. See Adding Content and Linking Content.

  • Content is available on every order for the product, including orders placed before you linked it.
  • Link as many pieces as you like. With more than one, customers see a single button that opens a list of everything they can download.

3. Add license keys

A Download & License product needs a pool of keys to assign from, one per unit sold. See Adding License Keys. Add enough keys for the orders you expect. If the pool runs out, new orders go without a key until you add more. See When You Run Out of Keys.

4. Adjust settings (optional)

A product can override some of your store-wide settings, such as its button text, or whether returned keys are restocked. Anything you don not override follows your store settings. See Product Settings.

5. Enable

New products start out disabled, so nothing reaches customers while you're setting them up. Once the product has what it needs, the app reminds you it's ready to enable:

  • Download Only product, once it has linked content, and
  • Download & License product, once it has linked content and at least one license key.

From then on, every paid order that includes the product is processed automatically.

caution

Orders paid while a product is disabled aren't processed, and aren't picked up later when you enable it. To deliver to those customers, import the orders.

See Enabling and Disabling for what enabling and disabling do and don't affect.
