Setting Priority
Some settings exist at two levels: a global setting on the Settings page, and an override on an individual product or piece of content.
| Overridden on | Settings |
|---|---|
| A product or variant | Download Button Text, Multi-Content Button Text, License Key Terminology, Auto Sync Inventory, Auto Restock Inventory |
| A piece of content | Download Limit, Time Limit |
The override always wins. If there's no override, the global setting applies.
The states
Global settings have two states:
- On: the feature is on everywhere, unless an override turns it off.
- Off: the feature is off everywhere, unless an override turns it on.
Overrides have three:
- On - Overwrite Global Setting: on here, using this product's or content's own value, whatever the global setting says.
- Off - Disable Setting for Product (or Variant, or Content): off here, whatever the global setting says.
- Not Set - Fallback to Global Setting: follows the global setting. Every product and piece of content starts here.
How they combine
| Global setting | Override | Everywhere else | This product or content |
|---|---|---|---|
| Off | Not Set | Off | Off |
| On | Not Set | On | On, with the global value |
| Off | Off | Off | Off |
| On | Off | On | Off |
| Off | On | Off | On, with its own value |
| On | On | On | On, with its own value |
Button text
Button text can't be switched off: the button always needs a label. Setting a product's button text to Off shows the app's default label, such as "Download Content", instead of your global text.
Example
Your global Download Limit is on, at 5 downloads. One large video course should allow 20, and a free bonus PDF shouldn't be limited at all:
- On the course's content page, set Download Limit to On with a limit of 20.
- On the bonus PDF's content page, set Download Limit to Off.
- Everything else stays Not Set, and keeps the global limit of 5.
