Unused Key Restock
Default: Off
Some customers buy a license key and never reveal it. Unused Key Restock puts those keys back in the product's pool once they've been on the order for a number of days you choose, so they can be sold again. It runs once a day.
You can also turn it on or off for a single product or variant, with its own number of days, even when it's off for your store. See Product Settings.
When it restocks a key
All of these must be true:
- The product is an enabled Download & License product, and the setting is on for it.
- The key has been on its order for at least the number of days you set. Undoing a return starts the count again.
- The customer never revealed the key.
- The key isn't returned. Returned keys are left to Auto Restock Inventory, Chargeback Processing, or you. The app tells you once about each one it leaves, see Alerts & Notifications.
- Restock isn't disabled for the key. See Disabling restock for a key.
- The order was placed after you installed the app. See Orders From Before the App Was Installed.
Choosing the number of days
Choose anything from 2 to 36,500 days. The default is 180.
Each run checks every order from when you installed the app up to that many days ago. So the first run after you turn the setting on, shorten the number of days, or turn it on for a product, can restock a lot of keys at once.
Things to know
- The customer loses the key. A restocked key disappears from their order status page, without a message.
- Keys you sent another way count as never revealed. The app only sees reveals on the order status page. If you emailed a customer their key, for example, use Disable Restock on the key so it's never restocked.
- Restocking turns off order reconciliation for the key's order, so the daily sync doesn't give the customer another key.
- Each restock creates an alert, so you can see exactly what was restocked. See Alerts & Notifications.
- Restocking updates your Shopify inventory, if Auto Sync Inventory is on.
- It's not Auto Restock Inventory. That setting restocks keys when an order is returned or refunded. This one restocks keys still on an order the customer kept.
